Vincentian duo, rightarm fast bowler Solomon Bascombe and off-spinner Luke Wilson, with five wickets between them, lead the Windward Islands Under-17 cricket team to victory against northern neighbours Leewards Islands at Gilbert Park, Saturday.

The Vincentian right-arm fast bowler began a slide with the ball, as the Windward Islands defeated Leeward Islands in the 2022 Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-17 Super50 cricket tournament currently underway in Trinidad and Tobago.

Bascombe finished with 3 for 21 off his six overs, while Wilson took 2 for 12 in 5 overs. The other wicket- takers for the Windward Islands were Devin Tyson, with 2 for 19, Tarrique Edward, 1 for 6, while Kevin Gassie and Jerlani Joseph each took 1 for 16 respectively.

The Leeward Islands lost wickets at 8, 9, 9, 17, 17, 47, 59, 90, 91 and were all out for 92 in 32 overs, with Randel Longville providing the stoutest resistance, scoring 35 off 61 balls.

In reply,Windwards were in early trouble, struggling at 22 for three in the ninth over, before Divonie Joseph (38 not out) and Tarrique Edward (21), in a fourth-wicket partnership of 49, put them on the road to a five-wicket victory.

Left-arm fast bowler Watley Yanique took 2 for 14 bowling for the Leewards, with extras contributing 17.

On Sunday, July 24, the Windwards lost to Jamaica by a massive 186 runs at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain. Batting first, Jamaica hammered 267 in 48 overs. Brian Barnes topscored with 88 off 85 balls, while Trevaun Williams got 42.

Bowling for the Windward Islands, Kervin Gassie was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 35, while Devin

Tyson took 3 for 46, and 24 extras contributed to the Jamaican total.

The Jamaicans lost wickets at 55, 94, 98, 98, 212, 218, 255, 255, 263, and were all out for 267.

In reply, the Windwards batters struggled, and were bundled out for 84 in 22.2 overs as the Jamaican bowlers ran riot through the batting. Eejay Spence was the main destroyer, with 4 for 16, while Xavi Williams took 2 for 21 and Reon Edwards took 2 for 25, as Jamaica won by 186 runs. Kevin Gassie remained not out on 17, while Divonie Joseph and Mahid Lambert made 14 each and skipper Stephan Pascal chipped in with 11.
